We all float down here
Yes, I said it. The Lost Boys is the best vampire movie ever. Deal with it. I didn’t say that it was not even close, but that’s the fact. Now that we’ve agreed on that, let’s get to my point on why that is. First off, I love the atmosphere of the movie. Let’s be clear: this movie ain’t going to make you shit your pants or make your insomnia start because you are just too afraid of the dark. But there are a lot of horror elements and a couple of jump scares, just to remind you that this is not a children’s movie. It’s going to make you laugh and make you feel good. I know… “A horror movie that makes you feel good?”. What is this dude on? You must be wondering. There is nothing wrong with me (or so my doctor says); this flick is like a nostalgia trip to simpler times for me. And I know that it will be the same for you! Don’t even get me started on the characters. You get your one and only Kiefer Sutharland as the main villain, who does a marvellous job once again. The characters of mom, older brother, younger brother, grandpa, etc. are all amazing to me. But let’s be honest, the Frog brothers steal the spotlight with their kind of over-the-top portrait, trying to be cool, kickass, comic book lover, vampir slayers. The plot is nothing revolutionary, let’s say, but it’s easy to follow, and that’s what matters. I mean, I can talk about this movie for days… The music is literally so good, with Jim Morison’s “People are Strange” as its main theme, which will be stuck in your head for days. Days, I say. Ummm, the only thing that may be kind of outdated are the practical effects and makeup. BUT. I will praise any movie that puts practicality over CGI. You know the movie is good when I, a person who doesn’t really like vampire movies, praise this one as like a heaven’s gift to us people. Let’s end it at… Please watch this movie.

SPOILER REVIEW
Ok, so let’s start at the beginning of the movie. I love the opening scene (ignoring the one with the guard who gets killed by the boy) where the mom and her sons are driving into a town called Santa Cruz, and at the back of the welcome billboard is a graffiti that says “Murder capital of the world.” Simply and yet so efficiently, it provokes your imagination, and from the beginning, you are “all ears” for what’s about to happen. One thing I want to talk about is the character of Grandpa. I mean, what’s up with him? Yeah, all right, hes cool and funny. I get that. But at the end, we find out that he knew all along that the town was infested with vampires. Ummm, maybe, umm, I don’t know… WARN YOUR DAUGHTER AND YOUR GRANDCHILDREN THAT THERE ARE BLOODSUCKING CREATURES. Maybe? Just maybe? I never understood why he didn’t just tell them; maybe he didn’t want to freak them out, but in the end, even that was better than letting them die. The other thing I find kind of unusual is the Michael and Stars relationship. I mean talking about “only in the movies.” What, he literally risks his life and ends up being a half vampire? As a matter of fact, all that shit that happens is because he “fell for her”? My man Michael wanted to end his dry spell, but the fucking vampires, man… Just kidding, but I do think that it is weird for someone to literally almost die for someone they don’t even know. Ok, now that I moved the “weird” things out of the way, I think that it’s refreshing to see a bit of a change in vampires, like how the garlic doesn’t work on them or how they can mind trick people (even though it’s only seen in the “maggots scene). Their transition into full vampire mode is kind of outdated, to be honest. They do look like they are straight from the “Thriller” music video, but hey, who cares? It was 1987. I think we can look past that. The kills are nothing special; we get a lot of behind-the-scenes kills, except when the vampires die. I really like the “Death by Stereo” kill, when Sam shoots one of the vampires with a bow and arrow right through the stereo boxes. Talking about the finishing sequence, I do think that as awesome as it is, maybe it’s a bit too fast. Too fast as in, we waited for this finishing epic showdown, and it practically ends in a couple of minutes and without breaking a sweat. I mean, we get this awesome plot twist that Max is the main vampire, but as soon as the fight starts, they kill him in like two minutes. Talking about Max, that dinner scene with the frog brothers is absolutely gold. It truly made me laugh out loud when those dumbasses were testing if he was the vampire. Comedy gold. What else should I add? I will always love to re-watch this once every two years, and I hope you do too. But remember. People are strange when you’re a stranger, and faces look ugly when you’re alone! Enjoy bitchesss.
